a.  About

To welcome the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 2007 in Bali, Indonesia in December 2007, Tunas Hijau Club – Kids & Young People Do Actions For A Better Earth work with PT. Freeport Indonesia, and supported by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and City of Surabaya are organizing Children Conference on Climate Change 2007.

The motto for Children’s Conference on Climate Change 2007 is "Care To The Change", and various environmental themes will be addressed.

Children Conference on Climate Change 2007 will be carried out in the Surabaya city on 26-30 November 2007.

About 300 delegates and chaperones from all of Indonesia and overseas and 50.000 participants from children from Surabaya and surrounds will gather in Surabaya to share their ideas and experience to combat climate change.

 

The goals of the conference are:

- to gather the children's opinions about climate change and present to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 2007 in Bali, Indonesia

- to increase the children's understanding of climate change by exchanging experiences and opinions

- to demonstrate new ideas and initiative to battle climate change

- to provide children with an opportunity to get to know each other and to develop friendships across nationalities and other barriers

- to provide children with an opportunity to express their collective opinions and concerns for the environment towards today's leaders in business, politics and society in general

- to inspire the children to think globally and act locally

- to have fun together!

 

b.  Activities

The conference motto is "Care to The Change", and each of the 4 conference days will have a specific theme. These are:

Day Two       Water Resources and Forest

Day Three     River and Ocean

Day Four      Energy and Life Style 

The activities of the day will as much as possible be designed in accordance with the day's theme. "Learning by doing" is a basic principle of the conference.

The preliminary conference schedule includes the following activities:

 

Monday 26 November:

Arrival of delegates

7.30 am - 11.00 am       Visit to East Marine Fleet where there are a lot of Marine Ships

 

c.  Venue

The Conference will take place at the Techno Park Bratang Surabaya and in the surrounding  areas, about 6 kilometers from the Surabaya city center. 

The daily program from about 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. will take place at the Techno Park Surabaya. This includes morning plenary sessions with keynote addresses and children's presentations, workshops, discussion and action groups.

Techno Park of Surabaya is a very beautiful park with a lot of flowers, trees, pools, play ground and free internet access for the public. Techno Park is very close to the community. Techno Park is about 5 hectare.

Techno Park of Surabaya was established as a park with IT by the government of Surabaya in 10 August 2007. 

A number of sites located in the close surroundings of the Techno Park, such as the Surabaya Zoo, Kenjeran Beach, Bungkul Park, Friendship Park, etc.

A number of sites located outside of Surabaya, about 90 minutes drive by bus, such as Botanical Garden of Pasuruan, Forest area of Claket, Mojokerto, and water spring of Brantas river in Malang.

d.  Accommodation

The conference accommodation will be held by "homestay", where delegates and chaperone will stay in selected families in Surabaya *).

Through this "homestay" delegates and chaperones will understand how lovely and harmony the families of Surabaya. Delegates and chaperones will also understand the culture of Indonesia people, mostly Surabaya people.

During the conference, host families will accompany the delegates and its chaperones to the conference venue in every morning. Host families will also pick up delegates and its chaperones from the conference venue in every evening.

Government of Surabaya and mass media will select families who would like to be the host family of the delegates and its chaperones. 

Conference organizer would like also help delegates and its chaperones to book hotel accommodation with their own money.

*) Homestay will be just for overseas delegates.

 

e.  Registration

Nomination Criteria

Child Delegate must be:

·      Between the age of 10 and14 years on 26 November 2007.

·      Nominated by school or a community group.

·      Interested in environmental issues and or actively involved in environmental projects.

·      Accompanied by an adult chaperone. (Parents must sign an authorization letter for the chaperone to travel with the child – if the child is not being accompanied by a parent)

·      Available on the dates of the Conference (26 – 30 November 2007).

 

Chaperone Delegate must be:

·      Minimum 19 years old.

·      Nominated by the same school or a community group as the child being accompanied.

·      Interested in environmental issues.

(As much as possible, we encourage a chaperone to accompany more than one child)

There is a designated number of participants from overseas. All nominations must reach Tunas Hijau Club.

f.  Volunteer

It takes many hands and heads to carry out a CCCC 2007 in Indonesia. Maybe you would like to volunteer, and be part of the "Dream Team?"

To volunteer at Children Conference on Climate Change 2007 will be a wonderful experience, with 300 delegates and chaperones from all of Indonesia and overseas and 50.000 participants from Surabaya and surrounds.
There will be various opportunities for volunteers to give us a little of their time and involvement. They include:
- packing delegate bags etc. ahead of the conference
- setting up information signs at the conference venue and accommodation site
- pick-up services at the Surabaya airport or train station
- staffing the information desk at the airport and at the conference venue
- taking children to their workshops and other activities
- being practical coordinators at workshops and at fieldtrips
- helping to serve meals
- facilitating Action and Discussion Groups or even workshops
- organizing leisure-time activities, like sports and traditional games

- facilitating additional workshops for participants, who are children of Surabaya and surrounds. Participants will just only follow one day conference program.
